Help with NAMIB DESERT GECKO (Chondrodactylus angulifer)

reps-r-us Apr 22, 2004 07:49 PM

Hi,

I received a pair of Namib Desert Geckos in a trade. They are very funny little creatures...

However I can't find that much info online about them. I have them set up with deep sandy substrate and some hidden caves. They dig burrows and seem to enjoy their new setup immensely.
Funny thing is, you can see inside some burrows right through the Glass.

They eat well on Crickets.

In the evening both of them are out and about, but the female likes to hang out during the day as well.

The funny thing is when they are "watching" something...they stand up totally tall, little legs stretched...

Their colors are amazing, as well.

I'm not sure if I will keep them longterm, but in the meantime I want to make sure they are as comfortable and happy as can be.

Does anyone here keep this kind of sand gecko? And could you tell me what else I should do, or watch out for?
They weren't interested in eating anything other then crickets so far.

Thank you in advance for any help...

thank you,

I want to make sure they get the best of care I can give them...they are just to funny...no wonder they are called the "bulldog gecko" with their big heads and eyes, and the way they stand up wide legged...LOL

Although not aggressive, they pack a powerful bite, just so you know. Basic care is as for Leopards. They like much deeper sand, plus places to dig out and make burrows.

The best reference on them is in an article in the GGA publication Gecko.

There is a care sheet I wrote up on my web site for Chondros. Feel free to contact me privatly regarding them. They are really nice animals, hardy and easy to care for.
