one newt died, one still alive

abbyn Jun 14, 2003 11:35 PM

over a month ago, i got 2 newts at the pet store. today one died. he was really skinny (been that way ever since i got him) and missing a foot. the other one appears to be ok, but i hardly see it eat. (both of them would hardly ever eat.) how can i make my newt eat? at the pet store they said they fed them dried blood worms, which is what i'm feeding it. how can i make this newt live? help please!

The dried bloodworms may not be a very tempting food. Can you go to a fishing bait shop? Chopped earthworms are good. If you are near a chemical-free garden you could dig some up. Or get frozen bloodworms or live tubifex, bloodworms or blackworms from your local aquarium shop/petstore. Sometimes a piece of a nice fatty waxworm (bee moth caterpillars) is tempting. Or a whole small waxworm.

i've tried chopped up small earthworms, but they're still too big for my newt. i'll see if i can find any blood/black/wax worms. thanks!
