Here is the latest picture update of Serendipity the leo we rescued. Look at that tail! Such a big difference from when she was found wandering the floors of petsmart!

Hey, I am glad I found someone with a cat and gecko. I have a sad story. I had just recently bought a nice lep and my three cats loked him too much. I would come into my room and all three would be staring into the viv. or on top of it trying to get into it. Well, I left for a day and cam back the next day and my cats had torn through the screen and had manged to get hold of the gecko... I searched the house for him and found him eventually... not as I would have liked to. He was killed. Do u ever have any trouble with your cats and if you do, what do you do to prevent them from stressing your geckos. This will sound really weird but my cat can open the doors in our house. my house has the door knobs that are like a "lever" and don't twist, u just have to push down on them. I had shut the door before leaving and placed a doorstop under the door because my smartest cat, an orange tabby, has learned to jump up onto the handle, opening the door enough to wiggle his way through it. n e way. do have any advice because I am going to get another gecko but only if I can find a way to keep the cats away from it and not get stressed out.

I suggest the strong wire lids, rather than the screen. I highly doubt your cats can get through those, especially if you buy locks for it. And perhaps putting cardboard around the tank (not on top, dont want to start a fire or build up too much heat) to give your gecko a bit more privacy. Or maybe some terrarium background paper.

Cats and lizards do not mix. A pet owner is entirely responsible for their pet's safety. Cats staring at a leopard gecko stresses the lizard infinitely. Lizards instinctively know they are watched for dinner.

If you must have cats, and get a lizard, you need to keep that leo in a room closed off from the cats, including a solid thick metal mesh top clamped onto the tank in the event a cat should sneak in (they are famous for doing that).

Overall, in my opinion, a person with a cat should not get lizards because when the owner is away, the cats will do mischief.

I have both a cat and a leo. When we first brought the leo home, the cat was very interested. She would watch him walk around and really loved watching the crickets that we would throw in. She once attempted to get on top of the tank, but missed, slamming into the side...it was rather amusing. We keep the tank on a tank stand that is too high for her to jump on. We also keep any other furniture or anything that she could use as a step stool away from the tank.
Keeping an animal safe is the owners responsibility, but I think that the owner of the leo that was killed took the precautions and wasn't trying to harm the little guy.
If you get a locking metal mesh lid for your tank, your kitty and leo should do just fine together. Good luck with them.

Wow! You've done a great job with Serendipity. She looks great. Oh, btw, did you mean literally wondering the floors of petsmart, as in you found her on the floor? If so, did you just pick her up or did you pay for her? Anyway, she looks good. She was lucky to end up with you.
