I think I may have a mite infestation but I'm having trouble finding information on it. Can anybody point me to a good source?

It started a couple days ago when I saw a white mite crawl across the face of my king snake. No matter where I look on the internet, these white coloured mites seem to be a mystery (and anywhere I do find information, the general thought is that it isn't much of a problem). But my snake has been rubbing his head against the glass on the side of his acquarium in a way that looks like he is trying to rub something off (he is doing it right now). I've studied his head as much as I can - looking carefully for the red or black colour that snake mites are but I can't see anything. What can I do to know for sure that he does or doesn't have them? How difficult are they to detect? Is it possible for a snake mite to be white?

It is my first snake and I have had him for less than 1 week. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed about how to tackle this problem... I plan to clean out his home but a) I'm not sure if there is a problem or how bad it is and b) when I do go about it I want to make sure that I fix it completely.

I'm starting to wish I knew somebody who has actually taken care of a snake that could come over to take a look!
