CONEHEAD lizard incubation

kg Apr 23, 2004 12:15 AM

I need incubation information about Laemanctus longipes or the Conehead Lizard. I'm incubating my friend's conehead's eggs at 84 F with my bearded dragon eggs and I'm wondering if that temperature is okay or if I need a higher or lower temp. Any help would be appreciated! BTW there are four of them and I'm pretty sure they're fertile since they're white and I candled them and I see embryos. I'm hoping they're alright since they went through a 40 minute drive to my house. Thanks.

Hey Nick,
What happened was he bought two a few months ago and he noticed that the bigger one was getting really fat. He called me, I told him it was probably either impacted or gravid and he stuck a laying bin in the cage. A few days later, she laid eggs..

I'm hoping that 84 is a good temp.. So far they're doing good and I'm going to candle them again in a few weeks to make sure they're developing inside.

He's letting me have one when they hatch.. so I can't wait to see how these guys come out. Have any idea whether they hatch with those crests on their heads? Or do they develop as they age?

well its hard to say as finding info on cone head breeding is very rare.their has been virtually no sucess at breeding these lizards in the US.their is probably a greater success over seas.Ive not found any info on hatchlings really.in nature the eggs hatch in 75 to 100 days.the babies are four to five inches at hatching.this is all ive found.make sure to add plenty of calcium to their food.i believe it would be possibly the first time anyone has hatched out the babies and had them longer than a few months in the US.keep me updated on their progress as im interested to see what happens.as for the crest id guess their born with them since their not like the crests of basilisk.
