cray geckos?

geckogurl_04 Jun 15, 2003 12:29 AM

OK ive read A LOT about whats good and whats bad when it comes to substrate. Ive also had a gecko go through the whole sand impaction thing that caused permanent damage and all that jazz. So here's the deal. I took all my geckos off sand. They are all now on repti-carpet. Two of them are wierd though. My male, the one that had the impaction is trying to eat the carpet. I dust his crickets AND leave a calcium dish in his tank. he eats crickets and mealworms(out of a dish). but he still tries to eat the carpet I don't get it! Also my female crawls under the carpet to hide. they have four hiding spots in their enclosure (she's with another female and they are the same size) but she goes under the carpet. I dont get that either. Are my geckos crazy or am I?

For the ones messing with the carpet, you can go and get a couple pieces of slate from home depot(they will cut it to size for you). They wont be able to eat it or get under it. The male can lose some teeth by trying to bite the repti carpet. And the female probably just feels more secure under the carpet.
