breeding and feeding question

greg woodie Apr 23, 2004 11:44 AM

i have an Eastern Hognose, an Eastern Milk snake and a Corn snake(all wild-caught) that haven't eaten for several weeks now. i think they are all males. could it be they're in 'breed mode'? will males and females stop eating when it's breeding season, or just the males? if they are in 'breed mode' and i can't breed them, should i just be patient and wait until they end their fast? thanks for any advice!

Man you all over all of these forums, everywhere I look you are there. Most male snakes will stop feeding in breeding season, atleast until around May. I'm not too sure about females though.

Or, think about this, maybe you never gave them the time to adjust to captvity. Leave them alone in their enclosures without bothering them once and then try feeding them.

i know, i know...i'm a busybody...LOL! i do have several different types of snakes and that's why i'm on a lot of the forums. out of the snakes i mentioned, i've had them all at least 6 months. i almost never handle them except when feeding and cleaning. i guess i'll just have to be patient and wait.

If you notice that they are dramatically loosing weight and/or becoming less active and look dehydrated, it would be best to then force feed them, or get them some females to entertain them.
