Deworming dosages for U. phantasticus...HELP!

italvital Apr 23, 2004 12:04 PM

What are the usual recommended dosages of Panacur, etc. for U. phantasticus? At what frequency and duration should they be used? My vet wanted me to bring this along with the article on ebenaui and phantasticus in Reptiles mag to give the prescription. My tiny little male is a sufferin'. I need this prescription!!!
Thanks!
Ashton

Or what ever else works safely and efficiently. Parzap?

Ashton,

The best I can do is tell you what I did with my U. henkeli. I initially doses with .1 cc per 10g body weight with a liquid 10% suspension of Panacur. Then I followed up 2 weeks later with another dose. This is a bit of a high dose, you could probably cut it in half and it would still be effective. I'd be a bit more careful with U. phantasticus and do something more along the lines of .7cc per 10g body weight. Best of luck!!!

Sorry, I meant .07cc per 10g body weight, NOT .7!!!

Thanks, I will take this when I go to the vet again today. I took fecal samples for them to test to get a better idea of what parasites need to be treated. Does it matter how long I wait before feeding them again (after I give them the medications)?
Thanks,
Ashton

Hi Ashton,

I medicated mine and then fed the next night. Obviously they aren't going to want to eat after you medicate them, and I wouldn't medicate after feeding b/c they may regurge it. Mine ate just fine the next day, and they're been doing excellent ever since. But as far as letting the meds take effect, I wouldn't worry about time span in between medicating and feeding. Good luck!!!
