Adding a second female

LaMerbelow Apr 23, 2004 12:23 PM

I currently have a breeding pair in a 55G tank. They have been together since the middle of January and are both about one year old. It has been about a week now since I found my first batch of eggs. I was just wondering if I added a second female about the same age and size, what the chances of fighting among them are? My female was my first crested and she seems to be a bit more dominant over the male. I guess I'd be more worried about her fighting with any new females. If I had to I know I could always rearrange the tank so it is new to everyone. Any advice would be appreciated!

I personally have never had any problems with females giving each other problems and fighting. Your cage is big enough that they should not be right on top of each other. I would make sure that there are plenty of hiding places. It may be useful to rearange, but I have never seen that to be a problem...but I tend to set my groups and leave them. I would say make sure that you Quarantine your new female first. That is the best advice that I can giv eyou.

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely keep the new female seperate for a while when I get her and then I will see how things go! I figured the tank size would help since they have plenty of room.
