I was wondering if it would be ok if I used one of those plastic 3 drawer storage containers(the ones on casters) that they have at walmart as a rat rack. I only need a small colony as I only have 3 snakes to feed (soon to be 4, I have an adult burm, and two subadult red tails, and this summer I'm planning on getting a baby burm). Would this be ok for a small colony if I drill holes towards the top for air circulation. Will they be able to chew through this? Thanks for any replies.

I think it's very difficult to get decent ventilation on one of those for a rat rack.... and they WILL chew through. So I would suggest that it is not a good idea. All of my rats are in wire cages. I hope to make a rat rack this summer, but until then the wire cages do a good job.

Someone on here detailed his attempt to use that unit to house mice and it was a failure. I cannot immagine it succeeding with rats.

Yeah....
That was me. It seemed to be working really good at first. But in the end I just gave up. I would highly advise going another route, especially with rats. I did find a low cost Rat solution though. I will try to find the web link for the site where I got the plans. We now use big rubbermaid bins modified with 1/4 mesh and they are stackable.
