Nice shot mike, your shot shows the deep bite these wee nastys take in order to stab the prey w/ their rear stillettos. A regal will asphyxiate another colubrid its own size in as little as 10-12 minutes. A coral snake (Micruroides) by comparison will often be chewing on larger ophidian prey for up to an hour or more & actually end up swallowing them alive.

What can I say, I usually don't get very good pics but this is one of my exceptions(I have like 3 other exceptions as well). Regals always seem to aim for the head or neck area. I read an observation about 2 months ago involving a regal and a night snake where the regal bite the night snake on the neck and released. The night snake was removed from the enclosure, and placed into a seperate container. About 10 minutes after the bite, the night snake showed signs that something was wrong with it, gasping for air and turning over. By 13 minutes it was dead and placed back into the enclosure for a meal. I found that observation pretty interesting.
