Males can produce sperm befor they are a year old, but it is better to use older males for breeding. I usually will not use a male until he is atleast 18 months old and atleast 600 grams. This year I bred an 18 month old Pastel who weight 1300 grams. He bred two females with no slugs. Alot of time a younger male will produce more slugs, or unfertilized ova.
Hope that helps,
Jason

My male is a 2001 baby, but I don't know how much he weights.
He is 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. Would you think this male would be big enough this year?

Oh yeah! He is big enoutgh, has been for probably 2 years LOL. he is probably over 1000 grams, breeding can start 500-700 grams.
