STUPID FEEDING QUESTION

sallie_keeper Jun 15, 2003 01:34 AM

HOW OFTEN DO I FEED MY VEILED??? I know this may seem stupid.. this is my first chameleon so i don't want to screw anything up..

I took my guy to a herp vet, and he suggested that I NOT FEED EVERYDAY.. That in the wild, they would not be eating EVERY Day, and only get lucky to eat several times a week..

Is this true?? I have been feeding about a dozen crickets EVERY DAY... I give other bugs couple times a week..

Please tell me who to listen to.. I am very confused right now..

Thanks
Harpy

Well, what the vet said is true, and that is the general rule I follow. But, in captivity you can feed it as much as you like. I prefer to keep it as natural as I can, so I don't feed every single day, and how much I offer is usually varied from a little to a lot. I do gutload and dust with supplements, and I offer as much of a varied diet as I can. If you are just feeding crickets directly from a pet store, then I'd opt to feed your chameleon every day since they have very little nutritional value.
Variety is the spice of life, especially when it comes to feeders for your herps.
