Oh no, I think I've got a bully on my hands

lizzylizard Apr 24, 2004 04:14 AM

The little blizzard that I got is a tiny tiny bit bigger than the other two, but not in length. They are all about 3-4 weeks I think. However, I think I just caught the blizzard bite the hypo. When they look at each other they are all getting the look in their eyes that says I want to eat you. Help I don't want to find any limbs missing. Or am i overreacting and this is just babies being babies? The breeder said she had them housed together for the last week, and that they were all getting along fine. Should I put in more crickets? I've put in about 15 1/4" size.

When ypu put them into the tank did you put them in all ot once or one by one?, sometimes if you put any kind of terestrial/arboreal/ reptile in a group but enter them one by one, almost certainly one will want to take over and be the boss,
i put 2 female tokays together a while ago, but i didnt put them in at the same time and the female who went in first ended up killing the other female WHO WAS BIGGER!, females tend to always get along better than males, the "look" you think your seeing may just be frieght from being in an entirly differnt home, and the stress of it all can cause them to probably fight, babies, aren't as aggressive towards eachother as adults so i would'nt worry at all.

maybe that would explain it, I put the bliz in first. Killed the other one? oh no, now I'm really not going to get any sleep.

p.s. I'm sorry for your loss that must have been terrible

well these were tokays, a single bite can kill the other one if bitten in the right spot...this female was 8 inches long and killed a 12 inch female, tokays are all head, and untill you are bitten by one(hopefully you never do get bitten by a feral OR tame tokay) the pain is...i cant even explain it... thge worst i' have ever been bitten was when a freshly WC male was sent to me and i was stupid enough to grab it by its body..never making that same mistake again....this was a VERY long time ago...when i was about...8 (when the female killed the other)so i rarely ever think about it..

but dont worry though...a baby leoi could never kill another baby, not strong enough, it even takes alot out of a male to kill another male, leos are not biters, and are not feral like a tokay..so dont worry

I hope not, it seems like they are acting like my dogs when comes to dominance.

I hope I'm never bitten by a tokay as well, there are so many brutal pic's of that

With babies and even adults its best to just leave them alone and let them work out who is who for a while. ONLY if you don't see all of them eating would I begin to worry. One animal will become dominant over the other two.. though to prevent the feeding situation you could set up 2 or 3 feeding stations...or.. 2 dishes of mealies left in at all times with the crickets being given at certain times every day.

Hey Lucien, believe me they were all eating, non stop. I think I will try the feeding stations, but I'm going to let them get settled in first. The hypo and the albino are not to interested in mealies. I am getting some butterworms this week, hopefully they will take to those.

From what I have noticed. Blizzards seem to be alitte more skitish then the other geckos. Especially babies.

lizzylizard Apr 24, 2004 03:39 PM

Hey Jbuggs, she is not the most skiddish, but she definately has more energy (alot of energy). Except when I gave them a spray of water (won't do again), she hissed at me, it was pretty funny. My last leo liked being sprayed every once in a while.
