Please help me with sex.

smoke Apr 24, 2004 06:45 AM

I have 15 BTS, most adult and all sexed, and I feel there is a way that BTS can tell each others sex by first sight. Is this just body language or a physical attribute? Hour after hour I study each of their features (what happened to the good ol' days before I started with BTS when I had time for other things besides every waking moment spent figiding over their care, housing and comfort) and think I have seen something that might distinguish the different sexes. Out of 6 females and 10 males I believe I may have spotted something.
For those who have a digital or pics of their BTS FACIAL PROFILE could you please post a pic, without disclosing the sex, and allow me to guess what sex it is?
Please post either here or email. smokermike@yahoo.com
Thanks, Mike.

On visual cues, Only a male Tiliqua knows for sure, but Male BTS do engage in a courship circling dance. The reaction of the skink of attention determining the next move. I have witnessed stop-go movements with this genus that also may play a role. They also sniff the cloaca which the female may produce phermones to entice the male. Tonque flicking on the onset may be a factor as well. There seems to be credence to eye color sexual dimorphism. Males having deeper reddish eyes and females more of an orange color.

blunt head, but dark eye color. I have seen males that have had no prior contact attack each other just on first sight. I have yet to see one of my males attack a female on first sighting. There must be more.

eyes.

So much for that if what you indicate is true. It seemed to work that way (sex based on eye color) with my individuals plus Jerry Walls also stated this in his book.

Keep the observations and pics comin.

I dont have a pic, but i am fairly sure that my irian jaya is a male due to 1) his orange eyes and 2) his big fat head. He is growing Very quickly too. And at the pet store where i got him he had attacked the other 2 he was with. Id say that is pretty good evidence that Griffon is a boy...

Smokey - here's my advice mate...

Just watch them poop. You'll see all you need to see, and all your questions will be answered.
