Separating the hatchlings

pip422 Apr 24, 2004 11:28 AM

Hello,

My gecko's very first incubated eggs hatched! 1 on Thursday and 1 this morning. The first one was put into the "baby tank" after hatching and has been in there doing fine. I was prepared to put the second one in there too, until I was told otherwise during a discussion I had yesterday. It was suggested I keep them separate for a while until I know they are both eating. Is this the norm?...because originally I was told to house them together and just watch when you feed them to make sure you see each one getting their crickets.

i have only hatched 2 eggs before and i seperated them due to advice from alotta people...and they are doing better than ever that way and i wouldn't change this ritual if i had a second clutch...i say seperate them...but thats just me...and alotta other gecko breeders...i have seen other gecko breeders keep them together...but once they have like over 5..ive noticed that there would be 1 or 2 that are very sickly while the others are doing pretty well...also consider stress level...if one my intimidate the other...they don't even need to be hogging the food..if one is aggressive the other one won't even go for the food at all...and maybe one gets sick...u won't want the other to be affected or sick in any way....just a suggestion....hope this helps...

So you never wind up putting them together at all ever?? Or do you wait until they are both eating and then house them together after that? I imagine that it would be very space consuming if you had to keep every hatchling separated indefinitely, no?
