Is the Golden Pothos Plant safe to use???

RedQuake Apr 24, 2004 03:41 PM

I was at a store today that had beautiful Golden Pothos plants on sale. Since i'm going to be moving my crested geckos to a new larger enclosure i was wondering if this plant is the same as just a pothos plant and could be used for them? I'm just not sure if theres a safe kind and a not so safe kind.

If anyone can help out that would be great

Thanks,
Red

well i use this kind of plants for over a year now, and never had any problems. the geckos dont eat them and the crickets ignore them too. i know many herpers who use them. just be sure to wash the leaves and perhaps change the substrate they are in.

That is an awesome setup. Your cresteds look very happy. I went with a vine of artificial pothos looped around the sides. Its created a nice looking tank setup and my guys like it. I've found some large corner tanks that would make a perfect home for my male and female pair. If i get that one i'll go with real plants and Zeek my other female can have this tank all to herself

Thanks

ohh thank you very much. =)

here is another pic

since i am from europe and we dont have very high humidity here, live plants help to keep up the humidity a lot.

good luck with your geckos

Your setup puts mine to shame.......that is absolutely beautiful!!!!! How do you clean that? I've always had a problem with cleaning. I use papertowels for the bottom so thats easy but having to remove the geckos to then remove the plants and wash them off has always frustrated me. My geckos aren't to fond of being held and this process is very stressful for them. The only one that will tolerate it is my male Zeus. I feed him by hand and he's become accostomed to me but the others despite the same treatment freak out every time.

hi red,

first of all thank you for your praise. *g* but on the other side, ive seen setups that put mine to shame. for example this one: www.leiocephalus.de/Schreibersi/TerrS/TerrariumSchreibersiPanorama.htm well its not exactly an gecko setup but .... *g*
over here in europe we handle reptiles a bit different.
you will hardly find sterile cages, what doesnt mean they are
dirty, it rather means we try to make everything as naturally as
possible.
i dont clean the floor since i got a lot of microorganisms there to do that, i know the german names of them, but not the english one sorry, well the point is, they keep the ground clean for me.

i spotclean the plants and everything higher, and every 2-3 months i completely take out the plants and decoration (not the ground) to wash them and clean the glass, and thats it. but i only have a group of 1 male and 3 females.(who happily produce eggs )

just in case you want to see my other setups

my ballpython setup

thats where my teju lives

Those terrariums were cool!!!!!!!! I like your other setups as well. My crested setup is quite natural despite using papertowels for substrate. I have humid hide containers filled with bedabeast and they seem to enjoy that. My pair can be found in there alot while my other female hides under her log.

All of my leos and aft's are on tile. I used to use a combination of gravel and sand but i lost two leos while on that substrate so i switched. Now i have a healthy happy group.

I loved that first pic from the link. A terrarium built right into the house. Once i have a place of my own i'll be building something similar but moveable

Thanks for showing me. I always like seeing new ideas for setups.
