hey, there r a number of different traps u can use but the best one that worked for me was to get an extra large havahart trap used to catch bobcat from wal-mart or from most pet stores. take some chicken or beef not pork they tend not to go nere it and tie it to the relese pad. leave it over night and u should have a turtle the next morning. but it may take 2 or 3 days. also most important check your state laws on turtle catching i live in new jersey and i need a fishing license and i can only catch 3 turtles a day from june 16th to april 30th i have a bok on everystates reptile law if u tell what state u live ini could look it up for u.

I live in Colorado. So what do I have to know/do to catch one legally over here?
u can take eny number of snapping turtles as u wish as long as u have a valid fishing license and the turtles are cought alive also for the trap dont submige the trap in water put it in shallow water and u might want to tie a some bricks or a sinder block to it couse i have had some big snapper roll the trap up to 20 feet from shore
also be carful around snappers i had one today bight a chiken leg bone in half. grab them buy the tail abut be carful couse they got necks long enough to get u so u always have to be on your toes.
thats for big turtles u should try for small ones the older they are the harder they are to handle and more aggressive and old ones shouldnt be taken outta the environment theyve lived in for yrs..and cody wat part of NJ?
