Pothos vs Golden Pothos, both still ok to use in gecko tank?

RedQuake Apr 24, 2004 05:25 PM

I saw some Golden Pothos plants for sale and i'm thinking of incorporating them into my crested gecko enclosures as well as maybe one in my gecko tanks. Is the golden still safe to use?

Thanks

Oh thanks. good to know. I feed my crested crickets from a very deep bowl and i haven't had one escape yet so hopefully that won't be a problem

You really need to get the species names for plants, if you're going to ask about toxicity. Many different plants may have the same or similar common names.

In this case, Golden pothos is generally the same species as ordinary pothos (Epipremnum aureum). It's simply a different cultivar.
This plant is not considered to be toxic to herptiles, and should be safe to use in your herp tank, even if the crickets DO eat it.

It is mildly toxic to humans, cats, and dogs. If eaten, it tends to cause skin irritation, swelling, burning, severe pain the mouth, and diarrhea. So, don't toss it into your salad.

Oh darn here i was hoping to make a more interesting salad HAHAHA I love salads (i think i was a bunny in a previous life LOL). (((i'm trying to be funny here)))

Sorry they didn't list the species name just that they were golden pothos. I'll ask though the next time i go in. Thanks for the info.....i should really brush up on my plants i guess. But you did give me the species name for the ordinary pothos so i will look for that one I like the look of nicely planted enclosures. Usually i stick with artificial ones but lately i've seen a few setups with real ones and i think i like it better.

I can't wait to get the new tanks setup

thanks again
