Poop looks like mouse!

smith710 Apr 24, 2004 06:37 PM

Ok, I have had this snake for a few weeks now and shes only about 2 feet long maybe even littler. But when she eats she poops really soon compaired to the other snakes I have had and when she poops the poop still kind of looks like the mouse. It's still pink and you can almost still see the features of the mouse. I feed her frozen pinkies. When my other snake goes to the bathroom it just comes out big and broun with a white end. That's how all of my snakes have pooped. Is there something wrong?!?!? Please help!!!!!!
Thank You!

Hey, I was just wondering how long it would take for a snake to regurgitate its foor. I feed her and it takes a few days for the mouse to appear. I fed her 4 days ago and it just came today. Is 4 days too long for regugitation??? It looks like the mouse but it's still like the mouse is broken down from like stomach acids and everything. I talked to a vet about it and he said that it takes different snakes different amount of times to go. He said some go fast some go slow. But I never concidered it regurgitating. Well thank you very much for bringing that kind of thing to my attention.
Thank You!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your problem!Yes you do have a regrgitation problem,Are you handling her after she has eatin! If so that MAY be the problem, its a good idea not too handle them for 2 or 4 days after they have eatin,Hope this helps!Charles

I was wondering, if the mouse is a regurge and it is still showing the kind of detailed features then more then likely the belly heat (ambient temp as well) are way too low, and also perhaps the feeder is too big for the snake to handle.

You will want to keep from feeding your snake for another 2 weeks and when you do feed it a very small food item to allow for the stomach flora to return to a more normal level. In proportion to the snake how large is the feeder that you are giving it?

Also you might want to double check your heat source, because it might be faulty (I had a faulty strip of heat tape go out in one of my enclosures and 2-3 days later a partially digested mouse was regurgitated. Once I checked and replaced the heat tape it maintained the proper temps for a good digestion..)

Good luck with your snake

No all my heat sources are working fine. The temp is staying the same. I checked my heating things also though and they are all working. I also have another snake in the cage and she is fine. The food i'm feeding her are very small mice and shouldnt be a problem. The mouse is just pink and is pretty ripped up so the features aren't great but it doesnt look anything like regular poop.
thanks

If the temps are staying in a good range then just avoid feeding it as stated and hopefully all will be fine.
Is this a captive born snake? or farmed? or?

Also how many times has it regurged since you picked it up?

She has regurgitated a couple times. Not sure about exactly how many. She was told to be captive breed and I figured she was too when she was eating the frozen with no problem because I heard it was really hard to get the others on frozen.
thanks again

snake. House him alone, and WAIT at least three weeks before you try to feed again. The stomach acids coming up with the mouse damage the snake's esophogus. You need to give it time to heal. If you have been feeding too soon after the initial regurge, that may have caused the subsequent problems. Give him time to heal, alone, before you try to feed him again.

Good luck!
