Leopard Frog Tadpole

Sillygirl Apr 24, 2004 06:59 PM

I got my teenage step daughter a couple of those leopard frog tadpoles that come with that Frog pond from Discovery Kids. It's this cheap plastic bubble to raise the tadpoles in and watch them turn in to frogs. Well I've got a ton of animals in my house. Well they did ok for about two weeks, then one started swiming like a nut, parking itself upside down then right side up and acting all goofy. Then about a week later, died. Now the second one is starting to do the same thing then acting normal for a while. I've followed the directions. Changed the water about every other day using a clean eardropper, I use only my Deep Rock water with them and even then I let it sit out for days before I put it in the bowl. I know that tadpoles like alge so I put the smallest bit of spirulina in there one day and they seemed to like that but that was only one day and I cleaned it all out the next. Could that have hurt them? What is going on? Does anyone have any ideas or are these things a total waste of money? Can this one left be saved?

Chantel.

Does the set-up allow the frog to leave the water? As the tadpole's lungs develop he needs to be able to prop himself out of the water to breath easily, even without his legs.

Yes the setup allows for them to leave the water and get up onto the "land" and a few days later he seems to be getting better and eating better, he favors the shallow end of his pond I've noticed. I still clean out his water every day and suck out the ickies out of the bottom. Any clue what could have killed the other tadpole?
