Hissing

Devilish1182 Apr 24, 2004 08:59 PM

My burm hisses all of the time. She hisses when shes in her cage while I'm getting her out of her cage and even after shes been out for a little while. Before I got her, about a little over half a year ago, I had figured hissing was a warning sign before a bite, and neither of my boas have ever hissed at me. The guy I got her from said she had hissed all time from when she was a baby, shes about 9 now, and he said that pythons hiss much more than boas. Is this true? Why does she hiss so much? Thanks for any help.

I also have a boa that never hisses, and my burm never used to never hiss, but as she has gotten a little bigger she hisses all the time when I get her out of her cage, or if I move her outside of the cage. From what I am told is that, its all a bluff. Accept in her cage I know I will get nailed if I go in there without the hook first, and that just started. The only time I was bitten when there was a hiss, was all in the same motion she was hissing and coming at me, my fault, I was dancing with her on my arm, in front of my g friend, goofing around, and pow. Lesson number 1 learned. But if your burm has not striked it is just a bluff. And I have also heard that pythons do hiss more as well.

burmese pythons are almost always hissers. its and intimidation move on their part. you just have to respect the animal but do not fear it, keep it fed and you should be fine. hissing is it's personality talking lol. its totally normal
