Yep, throw out the dark ones. They spin a coccoon when they're nice, big and white, you don't see any of the transfromation until they emerge as moths. Once they are in a hard cased cocoon don't pull them out to feed. They will sometimes spin soft cocoons and hide in, I sometimes pull those out to feed, just pull the case apart carefully not to kill the worm. Once the cocoon feels hard though, I let them be. L*

How long does it usually take before they're cocoons then moths? Thanks for all the help.

strange, half my post didn't show. Supposed to be:

How long does it take before they cocoon themselves? Heck, what's they're life span. How long from larvae to cocoon to moth? A rough guess, if you could. Thanks for all the help. You're helping me out a lot.

ok, ROUGH guess, haven't kept records,he,he. I would say they take about three weeks since they're born to when they're large enough to spin a coccoon. Then another two weeks in coccoon and two more weeks for the eggs to hatch. Don't give up on the medium where the eggs are laid if it seems that nothing's happening. Remember the more moths are in there, the better chance of you getting a new batch of worms. Just set the container apart when the moths are there (they die a few days after emerging from the coccon), remove the dead moths and keep the container sealed with a fine wire mesh. I keep another container with the worms I'm using for feeders. That way I don't have to go poking around looking for left worms to feed my cham and not leaving enough for a new batch. I'm glad to be of help, let me know how it goes! L~
