Eating Mealworms

agrrlandherguy Apr 24, 2004 11:20 PM

Question:

Rescued WD still not eating. We have had him 2 months now and he is still not showing any interest in eating. When the mealworms are placed in his mouth, he will happily chew them, but when placed in a bowl, he won't touch them. Vet thought lack of eating might be due to stress of moving to a new home/enclosure and the fact that he had a bacteria infection in his digestive system. Now that he has been here 2 months and the becteria is now gone, why will he still not eat? Any thoughts?

You need to replace the good bacteria in his stomach. Get Asadophilliz and give him about 4 drops a day for at least a week.
What are you offering him besides mealworms?
Crickets are great to stimulate the hunting desires.
Also try Superworms. My Sabu loves supers!
Good Luck!

Ok, so good bacteria it is!

I'm getting him crickets next week once his cage is completely plexi-glassed in. The last thing I need is them invaiding my house!

Thanks!

The crickets won't live that long if they get loose in your house.
So other than a loose cricket now and then they won't infest the house.
My loose crickets either drown in the dog water bowls, or find there way into my Hissing roachs...I the just catch them and put them back into the cicket bin.

What diet do you have your WD on besides crickets and how much? Everyone seems to have such different opinions about what to feed, when and how much and I'm curious.

The plexiglass is going up tonight and then I'm getting the crickets. I don't think them in my house will be a huge problem either... my cats will have fun hunting them I'm sure!

Right now my 17 inch Sabu loves superworms and silkworms. Wax worms a a snack only.
He is beginning to turn his nose up at crickets.
I have been tying to get him to eat pinkies ....but no go!
He will give in time.
