Possible Impaction?

pip422 Apr 24, 2004 11:51 PM

My female Leopard Gecko Wilma is about 1 1/2 years old and is carrying her 3rd clutch of eggs. Her first clutch was a success, her second wasn't fertile. She has been bursting for the past week and a half. Everytime it looks like she's going into her nesting box to lay, she never does. She's refused her crickets, but will eat a few wax worms here and there. I know they can refuse food just before laying and she just happened to be shedding as well, so the food part I'm not so worried about. But I think there is something going on that's preventing her from being able to lay. She drags herself around and contorts her body trying to get these things out with no success. Impaction was mentioned and bringing her to the vet, which I was leaning towards myself, but my question is what can a vet do to help her if she IS impacted? Has anyone had this experience before? I've heard that there is nothing that can be done and she will most likely die egg bound. Somebody pleeeeeease tell me otherwise.

Hi

If she is egg bound and nothing else works, a vet. can go in and surgically remove the eggs from inside her.

Thanks...it's good to know there is at least SOMETHING that can be done. I can't just sit back and let her die. I tried a warm soak and by either coincidence, or it actually working, she laid one of the eggs last night...along with the huuuuugest poop I've ever seen from a gecko before! Gross!
The egg doesn't look so good, but at least 50% of my worry is gone. Now it's just waiting to see if the other comes. **fingers crossed**

There have been some people who have experienced there gecko laying the second egg a couple days later and on the more extreme side a week later.
