Odd Question

Tarentola Apr 25, 2004 12:38 AM

My Colombian Boa Constrictor had cloudy eyes and dark skin last week, and yesterday his eyes were normal and he felt very smooth and was lighter than usaul, so I assumed he skedded its skin but I can't find the skin in it's cage.

I have never heard of a snake that has ate its shedded skin, but what else could of happened to the skin?Or did my snake not shed?

your snake might be in the clear phase right before the actual shedding of the skin... That is all I can think of..

Normally I would assume that you are new to herps and are watching your snake shed for the first time as your description is almost a text-book definition of what happens in a normal shed:

- snake's eyes cloud over a week or so before shedding
- due to restricted vision and the resulting vulnerability, the snake doesn't eat as much and can become jumpy and defensive
- skin clears a day or two before shedding
- snake sheds and resumes normal behaviour

I notice however that you also have many other animals, including a python, so i imagine there is some other reason that makes you suspect that the snake has already shed. Do you have any other details?
