Please help. Corn Snake Brille

jthatt Apr 25, 2004 06:24 AM

yesterday my adult corn shed it's skin and i found that the new brille was ripped or torn about 1 mm of the new brille and the skin inbetween attaching the brille to the labial is also gone.i guess it stuck to the old skin and tore that little bit off. this snake has had bad sheds before. i am afraid the fluid between the eye and the brille will evaporate and the eye will dry out. or if it stays moist then maybe he could get an infection in the eye. i was thinking that hopefuly he will go into another shedding cycle but that will take a week or so.i also was thinking about putting some kind of water base lubricant like ky jelly to cover the bottom of the eye but i don't want to do anything until i know it will not hurt him.

You'd do best to consult a veterinarian on this one--they could provide you with a safe antibiotic eye ointment to keep the eye moist, and prevent infection, until his next shed.
