Breeder male Brooksi eating again.....question

Passport Apr 25, 2004 09:41 AM

My Romeo has his appetite back again. I am considering double clutching my pair. Should I also "power-feed" him? He ate three mice last night as did his bride, Juliet. I plan on offering her food again on Wednesday. Should I also offer to the male? Or continue to offer only once a week to him? He was looking pretty thin compared to his robust size last fall before brumation. He is 10yrs old this summer. I don't want to wear him out as he is my favorite of all my captive snakes.

well, the male typically doesn't expend as much energy as the female in the course of reproduction but if he has fasted a while his weight may be down. It may be good to feed him some more while he is eating during the breeding season if he has lost a considerable amount of weight. It would be advantageous if you could provide us with his weight from before brumation compared to his current weight to make any advice accurate/helpful to you.
