lilroach56 Apr 25, 2004 10:18 AM

Lately ive noticed that Peaches changes color when the lights go out. During the day peaches is a pale cream color and during the nigh changes to a cream with orange/red highlights. Is it just me that has noticed that or is it normal?

I just read a post on alex hue's website from alex that describes this phenomena. My cresteds also do this. He suggests that the change is due to temp changes. At night it is typically cooler and hence the crested gecko changes to a slightly darker color. I am not a biologist but it seems that since it is cooler at night in the wild a darker color would absorb more heat.

When my crestie babys were very little they had quite strong color changes. It's not that easily seen now as they are a bit bigger. Here is pics of the other baby :http://www.saunalahti.fi/~evav/Hanimals/kuvat/Slismu3_21_09_03.jpg and http://www.saunalahti.fi/~evav/Hanimals/kuvat/Nlismu4_21_09_03.jpg
My two babies are also lighter during days when they sleep, but my adult male is actually darker during days and lightens at nights. But that male is very weird always, so I wouldn't say definite "no" or "yes" to anything concerning it.

There are many people here that seem to have experienced this. Mine also do this. One of my females is a very very light creamy tan color during the day (over her entire body) and at night she darkens up to a bluish tan and develops a yellow strip down the length of her body.

Jake,

This is talked about in the Crested Gecko section of my website. Mood, presence of food, humidity, temperature and light (or lack of) all affect their color.

As they get older, you will notice the changes are more drastic. The night time coloration of babies will allow you to get somewhat of an idea of what their pattern/color will look like as an adult.

The one you have gets a pinkish color on its back...trust me, I remember.
