WTF not active at night

Dumpythegrump Apr 25, 2004 10:48 AM

I have had my WTF for about 2 weeks now and it has only start to eat 2 days ago. I had to take the hide out of the tank to clean it and thats the only time it will move around but as soon as I put it back in it goes into it and does not come out even if there is a cricket right in front of the entrance of the hide out. It is in a 30 gallon tank with a water dish, cocanut subsrat. Is it normal for a WTF to stay non-active for this long?
Thanks.

You should monitor the crickets as you put them in, because you will most likely not see the frog eating unless it is dark and its under a red or black light. They are nocturnal... full nocturnal species, usually mine wakes me up around two in the morning when it croaks. The only way that I know mine is alive is because the crickets dissappear and the water bowl gets bed a beast in it. What is the temperature in your enclosure? It may be a tad too warm, but overall - it doesn't sound like anything is wrong.

The temp in the tank is about 72 at night and 80-86 during the day. And I have only seen it eat one cricket and I have only found one droping from the frog.

As I had said... you will most likely not see him eat, but notice that the crickets you keep in his tank are dissappearing, so you will need to replenish them. WTF are a very inactive frog, so do not expect them to be anywhere, but sleeping during the day and most of the night. Those temps seem alright.
