I GOT MY FIRST BEARDIE YESTERDAY, but it needs a name...

miss_frick Jun 15, 2003 09:48 AM

Well, I did it... I took my money and ventured into the world of bearded dragons. I'm quite excited, because it appears to have a bit of a nice-colored marking on it... yes, "it"... I still need to take it out and try to sex it. I have to call back to ask about a few things, because last night the "reptile man" wasn't in, so the person who sold it to us didnt' know too much... I have to find out whether they've started eating veggies yet or not. It has a really good demeanor, and it LOVES to just sit in my palm. Hopefully it will be the start of a loving friendship. Yesterday my dad gave it about six or eight small crickets (we have 1000 in the basement anyhow for my brother's chamelions) and it just chased them and ate every single one. Should I have given more? In any case, it seems to have warmed up nicely to it's new environment... enjoys the log we got, nicely under a heat lamp (we got a 20 gallon instead of a 10, and I think it's SO much better)... it slept under the leaves that we got, and it hung out with it's foot in the water dish too... I know, I'm a little crazy, but I LOVE my new pet so much!... any ideas for names?

In general, you should feed crickets that are not any longer than the width between the beardie's eyes. Adult beardies vary in how many crickets they eat but the younger ones are big eaters. I feed very young ones 20 or more crickets 2-3 times a day. Then later, they get 1 meal of about 30 crickets, and when they are mature, I feed about 10 to 30 crickets a day. They always have veggies and pellets in the tank.

These are names from words used by the aboriginal people of Australia......

Koori- Aboriginal person
Aroona- Water running or stream
Omaroo- Beautiful Veiw
Kyeema- Dawn
Tirrike- Laughter, Joy
Kareela- South Wind
Taworri- Evening Breeze
Kapi- Moon
Marrang- sand, Beach
And my boy is named "Carrick" which means "Dweller on the rocky cape" but its a Gaelic name

Then there is "Gobi" named of course for the desert =)

I used to have a girl named "Kinta" an aboriginal name which means laughter, she was so very sweet.
