Could this be set up to work on a timer?

trinacliff Jun 15, 2003 10:22 AM

I saw this cute little mister, but I saw a few issues with it...does anyone know if you could make it work for a vivarium setup? I was thinking about for my leaf cham's (should be here Tuesday) since they need higher humidity. I wonder if it could be set up on a timer? Has anyone ever seen this because I wondered if the they could get in the top??? I wouldn't want that, obiously.
Thanks!
Kristen

What about this one? I found this last night while searching around (it's the first one called the "Habba Mist Automatic Programmable Misting System". Does anyone have experience with this contrapption?

(By the way, the line about the Cham being embarassed by the Volcano System was classic!)

It's sold at LLL reptile and it's pretty cheap.

I guess I got your opinion on it...LOL! I didn't know cage "furniture" could be heterosexual or homosexual. Can I find one that doesn't have a preference? hahaha The good thing is that he's the only one around, so he wouldn't care because no one can laugh at him.

Seriously, I just thought it was more aesthetically pleasing that hoses and such that the misting systems have...and we're only talking about one cage...well, maybe two.

The more I agree with you...it does kind of remind me of those cheezy ugly colored skulls that go in fish aquariums.

Thanks for knocking some sense into me....

I would love something not quite so dumb looking to go in my vivarium so I didn't have to mess with all the ugly hoses and such running every direcction...but I guess those are necessary if you're gonna have a misting system.

Ugh...

Hi Kristen,

I would recommend hand misting for your brevi's. I think having a misting system, even on a timer, will be too much and keep everything too wet. b/t the soil, plants, and occasional misting or dripping is fine to keep humidity up and frankly they don't drink very often. As I am setting up the new tank (yup, still working on it!) I am going to devise a bowl on stones for a dripper (plastic cup with pin hole in bottom) to drip onto leaves and then as much as possible be caught in the bowl which I will dump and clean daily (at least). If your substrate gets saturated it will difficult to dry it out and keep humidity up. The way I regulate the humidity is that I have a piece of cut plex-glass that fits right into the top of the tank and cover about 2/3 of it and then put the screen on top. Then I take it off sometimes to let things "dry out" and this is working great. I always mist before bed and put the plexi on for the night. Rather long-winded (what else is bew? LOL), but thought I'd tell you what I have found to work.

BTW, they hate the misting, so best to aim on glass or a plant
