I usually let my RES roam around the house a couple of times a week for an hour or so. Today, I found him wandering around with a piece of dry cat food in his mouth, obviously looking for a pond to eat it in (turtles must eat in water because they have no saliva to help them swallow).
He had pilfered the cat food bowl! I've fed my RES's dry cat food on rare ocassions, after soaking it in warm water for a few minutes---they love it, but it's not good for them regularly. So I was impressed with my turtle's resourcefulness. I put him back in his tank, food in mouth, and he promptly finished it off.
