Question regarding tree frogs and newts...

TheImpaler Apr 26, 2004 07:06 AM

My girlfriend has asked me to help her set up an aquarium for a green tree frog. My question is this... She would also like to put another animal in the tank as well, a newt if I remember correctly. I couldn't think of any reasons as to why a green treefrog and a firebelly newt couldn't be kept together, but I also know that I'm not an expert when it comes to amphibians. So can that be done? And if not, is there anything else she can keep safely with a gree treefrog?

Thanks in advance.

well the problem is that firebellies like things a tad cooler than tree frogs. I would consider putting him in a tank with firebellied toads.. but a tree frog enviroment may not be the best sutied for your newt. Probably best to keep them seperate. then again i'm not expert.

I wouldn't attempt it. Tree frogs need higher temps while newts like it cooler. Plus it would be too much water for the tree frog b/c they aren't the best swimmers. They both also come from 2 completly different parts of the earth. Even putting firebelly newts w/ firebelly toads can be risky( build up of toxins) and mixing is a no no most the time anyway, even though most pet stores mix the newts and toads. hope this helps and good luck
