RE: dragon walking weird *PIC*... New pics and questions.

Snakebyt Apr 26, 2004 02:35 PM

from the previous thread http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=431813,431813 i was told this is caused from a vitamin B deficiency. I went and got the brewers yeast tablets, but how much do i give him,(1 tablet per ounce of water? i tablet per every 4 ounces?) and how often, and for how long?
Im hoping to catch this before it gets any worse.

and just for putting up with me, here are a couple more pics of him.

That doesn't look like a weird walk to me, it looks like Metabolic Bone Disease. Do a search on "MBD" or "Metabolic Bone Disease" either on kingsnake or google. You should come up with ALOT of info about it.

some vital vitamins/minerals. ANYTIME we have seen this in dragons we take in, its related to neurological/muscular problems and the base problem is usually not properly absorbing needed vitmains, mostly the B vitamins. I do not see any visual signs of early MBD in him, but its impossible to really tell over a computer looking at a picture

You can get a blood draw and check the Ca : Ph levels, but the first thing I would do is get a fecal and see if he has parasite or worms that are stealing the nutrients he needs to thrive....something is causing him to either not get them or not be able to absorb and use them. Nothing would be better than having a vet check him and give a professional opinion and he appears larrge enough for a safe blood draw.

The brewers yeast is a good call and what I would start out with whether he has parasites/worms or not. Crush and dissolve it in water or diluted gatorade and feed with a dropper or syringe to him, I would start with 1/4 tablet a day. They usually will drink strawberry-kiwi gatorade, if nothing else. The brewers yeast is water soluable, they will not overdose on it, excess will be passed out of the body.

Keep his dusting with Calcium with D3 going also and make sure he has a decent UVB source, it's not the time to play russian roulette with those that advise otherwise for their animals or yours. He's obviously got something serious going on and left unattended or leaving out something that is beneficial to them is not a good idea now.

Get a fecal, right temps, rich diet of greens, calcium supplements and minerals, AND UVB that you know is working and close enough to him. Leave any of those out and he's in trouble.

NOW, I will climb back in my hole and hide, leaving the forum to the professionals

He is eating well on a diet of greens and crickets, and a few superworms. he is under a Trex active UV bulb, has a basking spot of about 115 or so.
I will defenatly be getting him on the brewers yeast this week, as well as more leafy vitamin B rich greens.

Sheesh, Brandon, the fact her camera skills have *NOT* improved is not cause for concern at all... do we have to teach you everything??!!?? LMAO! Going to Daytona this year? Remember I know what you look like!

J/K, you know I respect you

BTW Sandy, our big girl, dropped 25 eggs last weekend by Zookie our over 1000 gram male, her first clutch. Some of the eggs are huge, 1 1/2 inch long and very plump, we see veins in them too.

She refused to lay in the dirt mix, only would lay in moist playsand and once given that she was fast about it. Fingers crossed for this clutch! Such the princess, she needed a sand castle to present her eggs.

2 funny! *starts to feel important around the house now* lolol.

I'd love to goto Daytona this year... have to wait and see how things work out the next few months... but we'll def make it one of these years. LOL.. yea, you do.. i'll just change my clothes you'll never recognize me LOL.

Awesome about the eggs! Sounds like they will be strong healthy babies. Def put me down for some Always good to add such size to the collection.. that's something we try to focus on as well.. the larger the better.. but we don't have anything close to 1000g... 680g was our highest.. WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING HIM????

Let me know how the eggs do and congrats again!

Hi
i agree with cheris ,could be parasite stealing nutrience specialy the calsium and the vitamine B .
a fecal exame is a good thing to do .
if worms stealing it then il advice parazap.com
tea with brewer yeast (vitamine B) can help you i think .
but you need a fecal exame to know it for shure.
thats a very nice colord dragon btw pitty he is dealing with that problem

I agree. One of my females (Marissa) had MBD when she was younger. We unknowingly bought her that way. We were able to get all of her calcium, etc. back up to where it should be, but by that time it was too late and she has never been able to walk correctly since. I'd make sure your vet takes a look. If you catch it early you may be able to reverse the effect.
