dumpythegrump Apr 26, 2004 02:49 PM

I was wondering what frogs are very active during the day and a frog that is very active during the night.
Thanks.

Most amphibians.. to be bluntly honest, are usually dull in their activities. I could see some types of water frogs being more interesting, and I don't know - but possibly red eyed tree frogs. The RETF are pretty expensive though, have a high maintenance care, and can die very quickly if all needs are not met so be careful. I did my research with them and it came down to the price, the cheapest I had found them was at the North America Reptile Expo in Philly and that was $30 and I don't have that kind of money to replace something that can die quite easily.

I don't find that true, according to some. You can buy captive bred red eyes for only $15 from some people. I have heard the opposite, that if you get well established, captive bred individuals, they are quite hardy. Dart frogs themselves have been given a similar bad reputation, but I can tell you they are much easy to maintain in the long run once you get everything established. Even the whole fruit fly ordeal is easier, as you won't have to go to the store all the time. You'll ahve constant food. Now, if you are the person that often forgets to clean, feed, etc, dumpies and pacmans are more forgiving. But the cleaning required for such large animals can be a problem.

Dart frogs and mantellas are active durign the day. bumble bee walking toads, atelopus, also are. Clawed frogs are fairly active durign the day, but even more so at night. Firebellied toads are ok during the day too. But the majority of treefrogs, toads, and ranids are active in the evening to night.

Yeh that is right on www.reptiledepot.com you can get RETF for $20.00 but I think that is a little one and you can get a adult RETF for $38.00.
