Snake found in my yard near Charlotte, NC. What is this?

fheimes Jun 15, 2003 12:08 PM

My landlord says this is a baby copperhead, but everything I've read about the copperhead none say that they are black and grey and they say the baby copperhead has a yellow tail which this does not. Could someone tell me what type of snake this is?

THanks,
Scott

Not a copperhead. It is a juvenile rat snake. A completely harmless and beneficial snake.

I hope you let it go on its way.
