What is the monitor with the best temperament as adults???

nri Apr 26, 2004 03:36 PM

I have kept savannahs and had a baby nile for a while and would like to have another monitor. My savannah bit a few times but would hiss a lot. I am looking for a monitor that would be calm and hand tame as an adult. Does any one have any suggestions on the monitor with the best temperament as an adult???

I've heard ackies (ridge tail monitors) make great pets. So do black throats and water monitors.

Thats an almost impossible question to answer. From my limited experience, all monitors have a their own personality. I've seen a nile that was best observed at a distance, but his brother was like a lap dog and would come running to the sounds of human voices. I had a savannah that would literally climb in your hand while another would hiss and tail whip if you got too close. Guess it's luck of the draw.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

1) Is a dead monitor
2) Is a monitor that learns to tolerate, trust, and accept you as a part of its life and environment, although these still can bite or scratch. The former are the type that lay in their open screen tank dehydrating, stressing, given up and waiting to die.
