Anaconda tameing

crazycodykadunk Apr 26, 2004 05:09 PM

I have started her taming today. i was wondering if u have eny ideas on how to do this. i tame a lot of snakes mainly water snakes and rat snakes for skools so i have a fair amount of good ideas on how to tame her but since she is an anaconda and u guys no more then i do at the moment on theses great animals have eny pointers. she is pritty tame so i am useing my slow and steady ruteen were i put on long sleeve shirt/jacket socks around my wrists and then putting on some soft gloves. all of these are coverd in my sent so she gets used to me. i then take her out and go really slow leting her move threw my hands. this seem to go really well she only struck at me twice and got me wonce threw the jacket. both times it was my falt the first time i moved to fast the second i moved my other arm to close to her head. she seemd to injoy it as i walked around my house and after about 20 minutes of this i put her back in her cage. i will contin u doing this everyday except on feeding days and the day after till she is used to it. then i will start taking of some of the "protective" wear. i no of a couple other tecneecks as well. let me no what u guys think or have eny pointers.

I'd say you're on the right track.
You didn't give any details on the anaconda though. Green or yellow? Captive bred or wild caught? Size?

lol...with all the body armor you were talking about i thought you were dealing with a 10 footer or something. Just wear gloves and eventually take them off while holding the snake until you can eventually take the snake out of the cage with bare hands(maybe). good luck and just always pay attention to what the snake is doing.

lol i guess it is a lil over excesive but i use it couse i deal with a lot of wild snakes that have a nasty saliva which makes stops blood from clotting for a couple minutes so its used to hold the blood in. lol yea maybe i will just use the gloves be that she is captive breed it would also be a lot cooler

I too thought it was bigger. I don't mean any insult. I just got this image in my head of you with your snake and all your gloves and stuff on.
I think your doing everything you need to. Keep handling it as much as you can.
Also I believe that anacondas, like alot of other animals, can sense fear in humans. If you are scared of the snake it will sense that through "jerky" movements in your handling and other signs. The snake may not be intelligent enough to actually sense fear but they definately are more unpredictable when handled by someone who is nervous than by a calm person.

Try having a couple beers before holding the snake.lol

Good luck and keep us all posted

lol im not scared of the snake it just i dea with so many wild ones that just bite bite bite bite it makes my arms look like they were shot with buckshot it just seems to be a habit of mine to put on a bunch of stuff then deal with the animal but wild animals r hard to deal with i think just the gloves will do me better.
