Hi i am new to this forum but not to water snakes i have cought and breed and had more water snakes then eny i can think of.
I am 16 and know more about reptiles then eny one else in my town. but today me and my teacher found a horrible sight around 11 oclock this moring we were out looking for some snakes around our skool when we found a mating pair of northern water snakes there were also a couple of kids nere by and we showed them. they wanted to kill the snakes saying they were no good monsters we shood them off and we went back to class then around 2 o'clock when skool was let out we went to see if the snakes were still there when we found the male snake with his head pinned to the ground by a rakestand i quickly took it off him and saw if he was all right i was amazed to see he was still alive and seemed to be alright just a lil dazed i took him over to a pond and let him go when a nother teacher came over and said that after we left that moring at 11 the kids we chaced off came back and were doing some thing were we were. it just shows how stupid and arigent people really are. i have saved meny a snake in my day mainly hit by car but to leave a snake there pinned to the ground to die thats just really really messed up and wrong.

I'm similar to you as i'm 16 and love snakes, and I too am the reptile expert in town. i hate it when i see little jerks like that. If they only knew how much ingnorance it shows they would not do, well they prob. would anyways, because they are ignorant. I caught a midland and a banded yesterday i showed this little boy (trying to educate him about it being harmless) and he said that's a freaking copperhead and he took off running. If people would just listen and learn instead of thinking they knew everything they would not seem as stupid. I was not using the kid as an example I was using the parents.
Sorry i jabbered on again but everytime i here something like this i have to go off.

o yea i get that all the time every snake seems to be a cotton mouth here even though THEY DONT LIVE IN MY STATE!!! it is the parents people need to be educated. i teach 3-5th graders over the summer at science camps about reptiles and this year i thought a couple of bio classes on reptiles and local herps.

thats pretty bad when the cotton mouths don't live in your state and they tell you thats what it is. Now that is stupid. What state are you in. I've ran my mouth on this forum so much some may be able to tell you that I'm in northwest AL. Starting next year I will realy start educating because I still have no vehicle and both parents work. they'll buy it for me but I will have to get a job to help pay for insurance. thats their deal and fair enough.

i live in new jersey we have 21 speicies of snakes here we have a snake her called the queen snake it was last seen in 1976 and was not put on the list till 2003 it is only suggested to live in a 10mile strip of woods nere the deliwar river i have bin asking some fish and game guys and envirmentalist to purserve the woods or put the snake on the endangerd list for new jersey or go do some frield research there.
what kind of car do u want i have a bureta some kids came by a couple months a go and smashed the windows in on it while i was at skool people r just so nice in new jersey
