Hemidactylus frenatus/garnoti I.D. verification...

italvital Apr 26, 2004 06:21 PM

The top photo is of a male H. frenatus and the bottom is a female frenatus or garnoti. I have had this female since she was 3" in total length, not sexually mature by another 3-4 months. She has been kept alone since I acquired her, but she layed a huge fertile egg a week or so ago. Her enclosure is near other frenatus enclosures, but she has not been with any other geckos since she was very young and tiny. I know the possibility of retained sperm, but what species is she? I do not keep any H. garnoti and have nothing to compare her to except for the fact that anatomically she virtually identical to my H. frenatus, but a smaller build.

Not too easy from the pic. To me she more looks like frenatus. H. garnotii should have a flatter tai.
Anyhow, garnotii are parthenogenetic..........
