What species is this?

On a vacation in Smugglers' Notch, Vermont, I found 41 newts. I think they are absolutely adorable and want to get one as a pet. However, I have been unable to figure out what species they are.
A brief description: Top side is dark brown or dark grey, with two rows of small unevenly spaced red dots running parallel to the spine. Underside is bright yellow with black spots. April appears to be mating season for them.
If anyone knows what they are, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
