Marbled salamanders terrarium setup/how to find

Herp-Boy Apr 26, 2004 06:43 PM

I recently read in my Reptiles magazine an article about this little beauty. The article also included a distribution map of the Ambystoma opacum (the marbled salamander)and I found out that it is also located in Georgia where I live. I don't know how to go about finding this elusive critter. The article included a good guide to making a home for these guys but if any of you know how to go setup a cage I will be glad for more advice.

Hey~

There is some marbleds for sale in the classified on this site. But for a care sheet, go to www.caudata.org and click on Caudata Culture and there are cares sheet for most species, marbled included. Hope this helps.

I've also read the article. They do print up some nice pictures of this little beauty. Know also that this salamander will live up to it's true "mole salamander" name in that it hides A LOT. The only time that you might see him is at night. You might be able to observe their tunneling if they get near the side of the enclosure if it's glass or see thru plastic. They're very secretive but this is a good thing. You might get lucky seeing some in the fall when they breed too.
