is that a culvert?

It's just a drain pipe in a wall. Guess it gets the right light and heat at certain times of the day.
It's the right pipe in the right place.

We seen 9 yearling coppers in these drainage pipes a couple of days ago 1 large adult in some rock crevices. If I can talk the guy into posting some pics, I will.
Cool pics,
Chad
Love them coppers. Have seen similar herps in MI.

Here's the other one I saw. It shows why it's good to look before you reach while climbing
BTW-so far in PA-venomous snakes-1 or humans-0-be careful out there people! (it's the only local one I've heard so far-let's hope for no more)

Can never be too careful. Once I got tagged after dark on the shin by a copperhead in Ohio, but was wearing leather boots, which saved that day. Another time got bit on the back of the hand after dark picking a pygmy rattler up off the road in Arkansas, but luckily was wearing leather gloves at the time. I've come very close to getting serious bites from Western diamondbacks by walking close to them in tall grass w/o noticing. I'd consider these to be the most dangerous situations since the snakes are larger and more potent. No bite would be fun, however.

I'm glad that most of the specimens I've come across aren't aggressive. I've seen people nearly standing on copperheads and Timbers-not noticing them. I've been surprised how often that Timbers do not rattle even when you're inches from them. I have yet to see either of these species bite without actually being messed with or stepped on.
I've never been bitten by a venomous snake but I know people who have been and it's not pretty. I'm happy you didn't have any bad experiences and hope it stays that way
