The vet just called.....I got the bad news.....

-ryan- Apr 26, 2004 08:06 PM

The blood work revealed that sydney's calcium levels are too low, and his phosphate levels are too high. Right now it's assumed he has MBD. I've got to start feeding him liquid calcium and liquids high in electrolites (gatorade, etc.). The vet said in a month or so, if it is MBD, he should be normal. I'm worried though. He is on an almost entirely protein diet, because he's so stubborn, and when doing blood work, there's only one other level that they check besides the ones when checking for MBD. I would think that when it starts, that level may remain normal for a while, but I don't know. I need some info and insight into all of this. I'm worried about my little guy. He has never been very healthy I guess. We're still working on getting him through his parasitic infections, and he isn't very big for an adult beardie (16-17" long). In hindsight, getting him from the reptile shop I got him from was definately a bad idea.

Please, keep little Sydney in your prayers, and let me know if you have any first hand experience with MBD, or maybe kidney failure (which I don't think is treatable, is it?).

Sydney means so much to me, and my mom. She's in tears right now, and I'm not far from it. I don't think I'll get much sleep tonight. I've never had to go through this much for a pet, and I just want him to get better.

That sucks, luckily MBD can be treated with success in beardies. Have you been dusting with calcium and d3, and do you have it under a good uv light? Be careful with the liquid calcium, follow what your vet says because it is real easy to over do it.

Hi
what kinda of parasite you dealing with??
worms???
then i advice to use parazap.com.
worms can eat the calsium you give to youre beardie and then he can get low calsium level.
so killing the parasite wil help you allot to get the calsium level up again !
