Interesting anole feeding....

scrufdog Apr 26, 2004 11:05 PM

I have been insanely and unusually busy working lately and havent had a chance to feed my bahaman (brown) anoles their usually supply or crickets. i generally feed them a dozen crickets every 3 or 4 days, and they also have some store bought anole food(dried flies) in a dish that they eat. htey eats the flies, but love the crickets. anyway, just for kicks i threw in a piece of lunchmeat ham and when i checked an hour later it was gone, presumably eaten. is this a good or bad thing? can ham or something similiar be fed to them along with the usual amount supply of food or is it bad for them? and yeah, dont worry tomorrow i actually get an early day at work and will be buying 2 dozen smalls for them(one for immediate feeding and one to chill in the cricket holder to eat apples and grapes for 2 days then feed).

any help qould be great.

I would think it would be a bad idea. Most lunchmeats contain nasty amounts of things like sodium and preservatives. On top of that, most meat animals are fed a steady diet of hormones and antibiotics that can't be good for a little thing like an anole.

Just my thoughts, though.
