My Pytch died !! Have questions!

jesseter Apr 27, 2004 05:56 AM

I woke up this morrning getting ready for work. I went in to check on everybody and noticed my girl pytch on her side in the cage. That's when I saw she was dead. I don't know what was wrong with her. She was eating fine up to until a day ago. She had gone a week without eating so I thought it was no big deal. I use repticarpet in her cage so I don't think it was impaction. She did have bed a beast in her humid hide. Could she have eaten that and got impacted? She hadn't ever done that before. She laid her last clutch of about 8 days ago. Could she have had a ruptured ovary or something? The only thing that looks out of place on her was that her belly was blackish blue. The color ran up into her chest. It looked like viens. Does anyone know how this could happen? Was she sick for a while and I didn't notice? I had checked her over about 5 days after she laid. She didn't have the black stuff then. Please let me know what you all think it is. Thank you all!

Jesse

I'm sorry to hear about your girl. It is tough to find one of your own didn't make it, especially when you think you had everything just right.

I am assuming that you were giving her a good ammount of calcium with D3 and multivitimins, especially while she was gravid, so i wount even bring that up.

The darkness on the belly indicates that there was blood pooling there, kind of like a bruise. It sounds like an internal injury. Maybe she had an extra egg that she couldnt pass, or maybe she did rupture an ovary. Thats what it sounds like to me. Watch out if you have other gravid females. Maybe a small fault to this is calcium deficincy....

Can a leo turn there stomacs over like a dogs ? If so that could be the problem, if you can see veins that means she wasn't passing good blood supply. I have never seen this before i hope this can help some what I am so sorry to hear that your gurl passed on. Like someones profile says , " When you lose a leo think of god getting a collection!," Boy that is a great saying! i love it ! Sorry about your gurl again
