Supers, How big before they breed?

CaseyHulse Apr 27, 2004 08:03 AM

I have 1.1 super tigers, both about 11 feet and maybe 30lbs. They are both housed in the same room right next to each other. For the last 6 weeks they have been very picky about what they eat. They were eating 2-3 lb. rabbits, the female, 2 or 3 every week and the male 1 each week, now they have quit eating, and both appear very annoyed when offered a bunny. Last night I put the male in with the female, and within an hr. or 2 he was all over her, tails locked etc. He is still at it this morning. I have not tried to cycle them and was wondering if this was normal. Is she too small to successfully breed? Are there any website that offer tips on breeding retics? Thank you!

11 Foot should be in range for most retics. Especially the male. The female might need to be a little bigger but I would say she is at the lower end of the size spectrum. Go to NERD's website. They have a very thorough care sheet on retics and it should be able to answer all the questions. Good luck, Todd

I have been told by a couple people age has more to do with it then size. I had a 12 ft heavy albino that I tried to breed this year, and she did not like that idea one bit. I talked to Kevin and he told me it was because she was not three yet. Hope you have better results. It sounds like your female is more receptive though, good luck. Craig Kade

Thanx Craig, We will see what happens, she has good body weight, about as big as a 2 liter pop bottle, and she just stopped eating so maybe she is ready. They are still together. You coming to Taylor w/those hypos? Take care.

I will probably be going, the hypos are questionable at best. They don't want to eat yet. I need to get rid of a few things though so I probably will be there. Plus I might bring a couple things to show off, my albinos boas from last year are looking awesome.

IMO, 30lbs is WAY too small for a female retic to be breeding...
