what if you need to get rid of a snake

tjprice222 Apr 27, 2004 09:00 AM

before I dive into the hobby of snake keeping, I want to figure out all sides of the issue. I think my aquarium is all ready to go. Temps and humidity are correct, water dish is sufficient for a baby ball, I have a little tree thingy for shedding, and I have two hide boxes at different temps. Oh yeah, and an undertank heating pad.

Anyway, I was reading that snakes has an average life span of 20-30 years if cared for properly. I am currently 22, but what happens if for some reason years down the road, an emergency arises and I have to get rid of the snake? What do you do in a situation like that? Just hope that someone will take it for you?

Has anyone encountered that problem?

Thanks,
TJ

There are always going to be people out there who take in "adoption" reptiles that are no longer wanted. Just make sure you really, really want one and are prepared to care for it for its entire life, provided no emergency situations happen. Things do happen, though, and there are good rescue agencies out there. And also, there are always keepers like me who love it when people give them free ball pythons!
