Boca Raton: A dog barely escaped with its life when a 10- to 12-foot alligator emerged from a Boca Raton canal and attacked the animal.
Jennifer Cook's dog Angel, a 2-year-old bull mastif, was left with a shattered leg and a bad cut. Cook says her children and the dog were playing in the back yard when the attack happened.
Cook says she sees kids fishing and swimming in the Hillsboro canal, which stretches from the Everglades to the Intracoastal and divides Broward and Palm Beach counties, and she's worried about their safety.
She contacted a trapper, who she said should be out sometime this week to capture the animal.
Cook also said the vet told her she would need to contact an orthopedic surgeon to fully repair Angel's leg.
